2027: Senator Kaura Declares for a Return to Zamfara North

National Assembly Complex, Abuja

Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura has declared his intention to contest the Zamfara North senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, seeking a return to the chamber he first represented from 2015 to 2019.

Announcing his decision, Kaura framed the campaign around two priorities: employment for qualified young people in the constituency, and educational development, which he described as one of the most important investments a community can make in its own future. Local reporting on the declaration noted a pledge tied to job creation for Zamfara youth as a central plank of the campaign.

A record to run on

Between his first Senate term and this declaration, Kaura has not been out of public service. He chaired the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs during his 2015 to 2019 term, sat concurrently in the ECOWAS Parliament, then went on to run the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority and now chairs the Governing Board of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority. Few candidates for a Senate seat arrive with two federal agency leadership roles completed in the interim.

What this means locally

A return to the Senate would put Zamfara North’s representative back in a chamber with direct influence over the policy environment Inland Drills Nigeria Ltd already operates inside: solid minerals regulation, free zone and export policy, and the intergovernmental relationships that determine how quickly federal decisions reach a state like Zamfara. Whatever the outcome in 2027, the company’s operations continue on the same footing they were built on: licensed, documented, and independent of who holds any particular office.
